Welcome to our Math page!
This year in fifth grade we will be learning so much! The math standards for fifth grade are listed below. A homework sheet for the week is given to students on Monday's. There are questions for Monday-Thursday that correlate to that day's lesson. It is an expectation that your child completes their homework nightly. Students can work ahead on their homework however, if they choose to go ahead please be aware there may be a few new problems that they may not be sure about. Your child can try them or save them for after that day's mini lesson. Homework should be turned in by Friday each week.
Students will have two IXL assignments weekly which will be averaged on Friday's for one math grade. Students will be given independent work time/station time to complete them in class, but they are encouraged to work on them at home as well. These assignments may differentiate depending on your child's need and understanding of previous and new content.
Each day in class we will also do a math warm up. Math warm ups include questions from current and past content. Each Friday, students will be completing a warm up quiz that will include 5 questions. Students will also be completing daily exit slips at the end of class. Exit slips will include 2-4 questions that give your child an opportunity to show if they have mastered that day's content. Look for graded warm up quizzes and exit slips in your child's binder behind the 'math' divider. These can be great study tools before quizzes and common assessments.
